climbing-festival-poster-small_posterOn Saturday, June 23, TAWKROC is hosting the 1st Annual Kootenay Climbing Festival which will be held behind the Lion’s Head Pub in Robson, near Castlegar.

The event will start at 3pm in the back parking lot of the Lion’s Head (2629 Broadwater Rd) and will include rope work and anchor clinics by ACMG-certified climbing guides, zip-lining and climbing on the portable wall for the kids, slacklining, bouldering and playing on the dozen routes at Pub Wall (which range from 5.8 to 5.11).

The festival will also feature the TOWER OF POWER competition during which contestants stack milk crates as high as they can…while standing on them. See climbing.inthekoots.com for a video of “milk crating.”

At 6pm the event moves inside the pub for drinks, food, movies and presentations.

Attendance is by donation. All proceeds will go to the bolt fund created by TAWKROC (The Association of West Kootenay Rock Climbers) that will be used to put up new outdoor routes in the area and retro-bolt old routes.
