TAWKROC is proud to announce the upcoming clinics for our 2021 Climbing Festival!

This fundraiser helps maintain access to our local crags, like Waterline and Kinnaird Bluffs.

These all take place on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021

Clinic registration closes on Friday, Sept. 24th at midnight.

Disclaimer: COVID-19 presents some unique challenges to holding our climbing clinics this year.
TAWKROC asks anyone taking part to do the following:

– bring a mask, and be prepared to wear it if anyone in your clinic feels it is needed
– bring hand sanitizer
– if you feel sick, do not attend the clinic!

Cancellation policy: no refunds will be issued for any clinic unless it’s cancelled due to weather. 


Rock Rescue

Instructor: David Lussier (ACMG mountain guide and owner of Summit Mountain Guides)

Description: ACMG climbing guide David Lussier will introduce climbers to improvised rock climbing rescue. Topics include rope ascending, escaping the belay, load transfers, raising and lowering systems along with troubleshooting various scenarios. This course is meant for intermediate to advanced climbers.

Introduction to Climbing Movement

Instructor: Jen Olson (ACMG guide)

Description: ACMG climbing guide Jen Olson will show climbers various tips and tricks to float your way up the wall.

Cost: $100

Schedule: full day (starts at 9 a.m.)


Multi-Pitch Climbing Skills

Instructor: Steven Senecal (ACMG guide)

Description: ACMG climbing guide Steve Senecal will teach climbers proper techniques and systems to proficiently follow, descend and communicate on longer rock routes.

Guide ratio: 1:6

Risk Management for Climbers (Part 1)

Instructor: Bob Sawyer (ACMG guide)

Description: climbers will learn how to assess risk and plan for success in sport climbing. Subjects covered include choosing and locating your route, bolt and anchor inspection, gear inspection, and checklists.

Guide ratio: 1:4

Where: Polished Wall, Kinnaird Crag, Castlegar

Cost: $50

Schedule: half day (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.)

Anchors, Gear , Etc. (Risk Management Part 2)

Instructor: Bob Sawyer (ACMG guide)

Description: climbers will transition to building anchors, placing extra gear when needed, and how to safely exit a route that is too hard.

Guide ratio: 1:4

Where: Polished Wall, Kinnaird Crag, Castlegar

Cost: $50

Schedule: half day (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
